Track:  Treatment

Over the past eight years, policymakers have made great strides in expanding access to addiction treatment, including through the enactment of the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, as well as regulations pertaining to the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000. Still, in the last year that data was available, less than one in five of the 22.5 million people who needed treatment for alcohol or illicit drug use actually were receiving it, according to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The Treatment Track will underscore the key role that treatment must play in responding to the opioid epidemic, discuss the opportunities and challenges created by new federal laws, and address treatment for special populations, including drug court participants, veterans, older adults and rural areas.
