Leonard Bade’s recovery came 8 years after he was first introduced to treatment as a young staff member in 1975 at the  Alcohol Recover Program at the original world renowned Menninger Psychiatric Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

His recovery began in early 1983 as one of the first patients at the Betty Ford Center. With only a few weeks of sobriety, he was asked to lead the newly formed Betty Ford Center Alumni program in 1983. Moving to Texas in 1985, he continued his recovery service as a board member and president of the local Recovery Resource Council; initiated a 9 year addiction awareness educational series in Fort Worth, TX; and served on various boards and committees with Betty Ford Center; including help establish the North Texas Betty Ford Children’s Program in the mid 90’s.He was asked by Mrs. Ford and the BFC Board to return to the Center in 2001 to help the alumni stay connected in their recovery and connected to the Center. Through 2010, Leonard led a group of 140 Volunteers to establish over 40 support groups in 23 regions across the US and Canada. This group of 140 volunteers that exhibited exemplary “Love and Service” maintained an 80% continuous recovery rate over those 9 years.In 2010, he completed his Master’s thesis at Pepperdine University comparing peer support and volunteer services of  notable treatment programs with community based addiction treatment programs, citing the value of intensive service of volunteers maintaining their long term recovery.

He is a cofounder of Treatment Professionals in Alumni Service(TPASrecovery.org), a nonprofit group of 175 members across the US that devote their lives to sharing best practices and supporting long term addiction recovery, In addition to these efforts, Leonard specializes working with disruptive executives supporting their behavioral health needs, creating and facilitating rigorous recovery plans that emphasizes returning to work with new behavior.

Gary Douglas Hees, MA, LPC

Gary D. Hees MA, LPC has worked in Behavioral Health for 22 years. He received his Master’s degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in Psychology-Marriage and Family Therapy. Gary has been licensed in Texas and Arizona for sixteen years. His experience includes working with Seriously Mentally Ill adults, adolescents in a private Therapeutic Boarding School and presently in the treatment of Failure to Launch and Substance Use Disorders with young adults.  Gary’s clinical orientation is developmental and relational taking trauma into account.  He brings a foundational developmental and systemic perspective to Decision Point. His focus is in Human Development and he is trained in multiple therapeutic approaches including Ericksonian Hypnosis, Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Pia Mellody’s Post-Induction Model as well as multiple Family Therapy modalities such as Structural, Strategic, Narrative and Brief Solution-Focused therapy. Alan Johnson, M.A., LMFT, LAADAC, is a past president of the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC). He has helped develop and refine the certification and educational components of the organization to ensure the highest quality of counselors performing substance use disorder treatment. Alan is currently on the Board of Directors of the newly consolidated California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). David Lisonbee is President and Chief Executive Officer of Twin Town Corp., Dba Twin Town Treatment Centers, which operates a network of six Los Angeles and Orange County based outpatient addiction treatment programs.  Possessing over twenty-eight years of behavioral health management and executive experience, Mr. Lisonbee oversees corporate governance, development, finance, compliance, quality management and clinical service. He completed his Bachelors Degree in psychology and has assorted graduate work and continuing education in psychology, public and hospital administration, healthcare and human resource law, and addiction science. Prior to operating Twin Town Treatment Centers, Mr. Lisonbee developed and operated psychiatric hospitals and outpatient psychiatric programs in such roles as Director, COO, CEO and Regional President. Beginning his executive career in the eighties, David adapted traditional inpatient and outpatient programs to the constantly evolving economic influences, particularly those created by the behavioral managed care movement.

Having both personal and professional investment in addiction recovery, David is an advocate for the addiction treatment profession, which includes fostering consumer, regulatory and political causes. Mr. Lisonbee believes that the profession of addiction treatment is best served by scientific research, empirical and experiential insights into the disease, combined with personal and social commitments and ethics.

Mr. Millette is the Executive Director of CeDAR, The Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado Hospital, Anschutz Medical Campus.  He has 27 years of experience in the behavioral health, addiction and recovery field in the roles of clinician, trainer, supervisor, change agent and administrator. Prior to his role at CeDAR, he served as the Executive Director of Treatment Services at Pavillon International in North Carolina and Hanley-Hazelden in Florida. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Mr. Millette is a Licensed Addiction and Mental Health Counselor.

Phil Scherer is the Chief Clinical Officer at New Directions For Women in Costa Mesa CA. Mr. Scherer is certified through several State and National Credentialing bodies in the intervention and treatment of people suffering from addictive disorders.  Mr. Scherer has worked in the field of addiction since 1991; he has worked in all areas of treatment including Clinical Supervisor, Adolescent Inpatient, Adult Inpatient, Adult Intensive Outpatient, Adult and Adolescent Continuing Care, and Adult and Adolescent Family Education programming. Mr. Scherer has been treating pathological gamblers since 1993 and started treating other behavioral addictions in 1996. He has been involved in trainings around the country in the Identification and Treatment of Pathological Gambling and other Addictions since 1999. He is also a trained interventionist and is a Certified Intervention Professional. He was originally trained in the Johnson Model of intervention in 1996. He has since been trained in the ARISE Model as well as the Systemic Family Systems Model of intervention as well. He helped develop and is a trainer in The Family Meeting Approach to Intervention. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Intervention Specialists, Inc. and is the current President of the International Interventionists Credentialing Board, Inc. Dave was recently named Executive Director of the Sober Living Network, the largest recovery housing organization of its kind in the nation, supporting 500 independent recovery residences in Southern California.

He has been involved as a volunteer and board member for several nonprofit recovery organizations. As a co-founder and member of NARR’s executive committee, Dave’s principal focus is on the establishment and growth of sustainable and effective systems of recovery housing. He advises state and regional groups on the formation and successful operation of recovery residence provider standards and support organizations. He is also active nationally in fair housing advocacy issues affecting recovery residences, particularly threats to the rights of disabled individuals to live in the housing of their choice. Dave regularly presents at industry and government conferences on recovery and housing rights topics.

Janelle Wesloh, Executive Director of Recovery Management, has been in the addiction treatment field for over 20 years. Wesloh has held many roles, including youth counselor, intake counselor, continuing care counselor, electronic medical record designer, and privacy officer. She oversees MORE (My Ongoing Recovery Experience) an online recovery support program; Connection--an intensive recovery support and monitoring program; and the Lodge program and weekend retreats at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center.  Wesloh is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor; she has an undergraduate degree in psychology with an emphasis in chemical dependency counseling, and an MBA from Hamline University.
