Christina Aguilar, MS
Christina Aguilar completed her under-graduate education at Stanford University with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Chicano Cultural Studies. The disparity in resources between Palo Alto and East Palo Alto inspired her passion for social advocacy in public and behavioral health. She worked to “build bridges” by utilizing the resources from Stanford and the greater community to create prevention and intervention services in East Palo Alto, CA. She went on to pursue a medical degree at Oregon Health Science University. During her training in medical school she was impressed by the impact unresolved trauma had on perpetuating physical dis-ease, mental illness, and addictions. Rotations at Sierra Tucson and through the Integrative Medicine Program with Andrew Weil further reinforced these correlations. The implications of misdiagnosed trauma combined with the expansive restorative potential for individuals and communities when trauma is effectively treated prompted Christina to leave medicine and return to her roots in behavioral health and social advocacy. She received her MS in Community Mental Health Counseling through University of Phoenix. She is also a certified EMDR practitioner and Reiki Master. Christina returned to Sierra Tucson in 2016 as a primary therapist in the Trauma Recovery Program. When she is not walking with her clients on their path towards recovery she is dancing with her 5-year-old daughter.
