Danesh Alam, MD is currently the Medical Director at Sunspire Heartland. He board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is an Adjunct Asst Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Univ. of Illinois. He has been the Principal Investigator for many clinical research studies.Areas of research include transcranial magnetic stimulation, substance abuse, psychopharmacology in substance abuse and substance abuse health care delivery and policy. His research has been funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, the VA Cooperative Studies Program and industry sponsors.
Dr. Alam has coauthored several publications in peer reviewed journals. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. David H. Baron received his B.A. in Psychology and M.D. degrees from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his psychiatry residency at Tufts/New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Baron is a member of the faculties of Rush University and Rosalind Franklin University/the Chicago Medical School. In the latter role Dr. Baron supervised psychiatric residents in their community psychiatry rotation for 15 years. Dr. Baron has been in private practice and held leadership roles, both in private and public mental health programs, for 27 years. His interest in ACT is consistent with the high value he places on mindfulness in relationships to self, patients, colleagues, friends and family.
Jon G. Caldwell, DO, PhD, is a board certified psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of adults who have experienced relational trauma and addictive behaviors. He is the medical director of Meadows Behavioral Health and assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona. His theoretical perspectives are heavily influenced by his PhD training at the University of California at Davis, where he began researching how early childhood maltreatment and insecure attachment relationships affect cognitive, emotional and social functioning. His clinical approach has become increasingly flavored by contemplative psychology and by the practice of mindfulness and self-compassion. Caldwell has published a number of articles on child maltreatment, attachment theory, emotion regulation and mindfulness and he is a noted international speaker and trainer on these and other topics.
Dr. Harmell is a national lecturer specializing in legal and ethical issues in clinical practice. She is a professor at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and has written extensively in professional publications on ethical practice. Gary D. Hees MA, LPC, has worked in behavioral health for 22 years. He received his master’s degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in Psychology-Marriage and Family Therapy. His experience includes working with seriously mentally ill adults, adolescents in a private therapeutic boarding school and presently in the treatment of failure to launch and substance use disorders with young adults. Serving as Clinical Director and President-Professional Relation Decision Point, he brings a foundational developmental and systemic perspective. Dr. Lee-Samuel is board certified in Adult Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. As Medical Director at Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, she supervises the medical staff and sets the overall vision and direction for the treatment program, working collaboratively with primary and family therapists, expressive therapists, nutritionists, and other treatment team members. Prior to Timberline Knolls, Dr. Lee-Samuel was affiliated with multiple inpatient psychiatric hospitals including Lakeshore Hospital, Provena Mercy, and Alexian Brothers. She had a private practice for several years, was an assistant professor at the University of Chicago, and also served as the Director of Psychiatric Services for DCFS of Illinois. Dr. Lee-Samuel attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. She is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Harriet Lerner, PhD, is a respected relationship expert. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles and 12 books including the New York Times bestseller, The Dance of Anger, and the newly released Why Won’t You Apologize? For over three decades, she was a staff psychologist at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas, and a faculty member and supervisor in the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry. Currently in private practice in Lawrence, Kansas, Lerner travels nationally to consult and lecture to professionals and general audiences.
Gabor Maté, MD, is a Canadian physician, public speaker and best-selling author whose works have been published internationally in 20 languages. His most recent book is the award-winning In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction. For 12 years Maté worked in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with patients challenged by drug addiction, mental illness and HIV. Kirk Moberg, MD, PhD, is the Executive Medical Director of the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery in the UnityPoint Health System. Moberg graduated from the University of Illinois and holds an MD, a PhD in biology and an MS in health policy and administration. He is a clinical professor at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.

Tena Moyer, MD, serves as the associate medical director for Sierra Tucson with a primary focus on the development of the Eating Recovery Program. Moyer was a staff member at Sierra Tucson from 2000 to 2005, with concentration in addiction medicine and mood patients, and directed two programs. In 2005, she branched out to pursue new endeavors in private and concierge practice, later returning to Sierra Tucson in 2014. Additionally, Moyer has trained in somatic transformation therapy and has pursued extensive psychoanalytic and psychodynamic training. As a practitioner, she attempts to synthesize diverse perspectives and approaches into her understanding and treatment of psychiatric patients, including biological, developmental, attachment, family systems, trauma, and psychoanalytic considerations.
