Raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Amanda Elkin became Foundations Nashville’s director of outpatient services in April 2017. Beginning her career in the field of journalism, Elkin soon learned her heart for others’ stories was less about writing articles and more about walking alongside the patients experiencing them. Believing that all human beings have the same core wounding, Elkin strives to meet individuals with the connection they are looking for — with others, with self and with a power greater than self. She considers it a humbling blessing to support others as they take steps toward healing. 
 
Elkin earned a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from the University of Mississippi and a master’s degree in community counseling from the University of Southern Mississippi. Over the course of her career, she has served as a primary therapist and clinical director, specializing in treating chemical addictions, eating disorders and other co-occurring disorders. Elkin also has experience leading programming and outpatient workshops that support family members of patients in treatment. She loves working with a team of professionals toward a common goal of healing, and she believes it inspires creativity, grows insight and provides a rich and complex foundation on which patients can build. In her spare time, Elkin enjoys gardening, cooking and being with friends and family, especially her nephews and niece.

 

Samuel A. MacMaster, Ph.D.

Samuel A. MacMaster, Ph.D. is the Cofounder, Executive Vice President, and Chief Clinical Officer at JourneyPure, a treatment provider with nine sites across Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida.  He is also an Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.   Dr. MacMaster has written three books and over seventy academic articles related to addiction.  He has a long history of working with numerous addiction treatment centers and community-based organizations in the design, development and evaluation of services for substance using populations.

Joseph Troncale, MD is Retreat’s Medical Director. Over the past 35 years, Dr. Troncale has established himself as one of the premier physicians working in the field of addiction. He is both a fellow and a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and was named Outstanding Clinician by Addiction Magazine in 2010. A published author, Dr. Troncale has contributed content to both Saunders Manual of Medical Practice & When to Call the Surgeon as well as numerous articles in addiction journals.
After graduating from the University of Alabama in 1974 he went on to complete his residency at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 1979. Since then he has taken on various roles within the medical field focusing primarily on addiction medicine. In the past, he has served as the Medical Director of two other prominent inpatient facilities.
