Date & Time

Description
Speaker: David Ryback, PhD
In this highly interactive, experiential session, we will look at the power of dream-work in battling attitudes toward helplessness in the addiction process. We will explore Kabat-Zinn’s concept of the inner prosecutor as Jungian Shadow and how that contributes to the shame characteristic of addiction, including the archetypal forms of shame and trauma. We will also look at how the addicted client’s attitude of self-condemnation can be overcome by Buber’s I-Thou connection and group acceptance.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Add the option of dream-work to their therapeutic tools.
- Utilize their new awareness of Jungian archetypes to better combat the nefarious effects of shame and trauma.
- Experience the effects of I-Thou acceptance and group cohesion to combat the negative self-condemnation characteristic of people with addiction.
