Andrea Barthwell
Andrea Barthwell MD, DFASAM
Dr. Andrea Grubb Barthwell is Founder and CEO of Two Dreams, a comprehensive wellness center for the treatment of alcoholism and substance use disorders. She is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Washington, D.C.-based global healthcare and policy-consulting firm EMGlobal LLC. Barthwell served as Deputy Director for Demand Reduction in the Office of National Drug Control Policy under President George W. Bush from 2002 to 2004. Her current work is focused on developing strategies to expand access to treatment for opioid dependence disorder, expanding practitioner knowledge of urine drug testing in the identification and treatment of substance use disorders, and helping individuals and families prevent substance use disorders with the lecture series, “The Parents Academy.” Barthwell received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wesleyan University and a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. In 2003, she received the Betty Ford Award from the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse. In 1997, her peers named her one of the "Best Doctors in America" in addiction medicine.

John Briere

John Briere, PhD. is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, and Director of the Psychological Trauma Program at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. He is past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. He is a past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), and recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Science of Trauma Psychology (APA), the Robert S. Laufer Memorial Award for Scientific Achievement (ISTSS), and the Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Child Psychology (Mayo Clinic). Christine A. Courtois, PhD, ABPP, retired from clinical practice in Washington, DC in 2016, after 35 years. In the recent past, she has co-authored Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, co-edited two books on approaches to the treatment of complex trauma in adults and children/adolescents, co-authored one book for clinicians on the treatment process for complex trauma, co-edited Spiritually Oriented Psychotherapy for Trauma, and authored the consumer book It’s Not You, It’s What Happened to You. Dr. Courtois lectures widely on these and other topics. She is currently chair of the Guideline Development Panel for PTSD Treatment for the American Psychological Association and for guidelines on the treatment of complex trauma for several professional organizations. She has received the American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Professional Practice, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Sarah Haley Award for Clinical Excellence, and most recently the American Board of Professional Psychology, 2016 Distinguished Service Award to the Profession of Psychology.

Keri Fager

Keri is the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator for Rosecrance and oversees all experiential therapy programming, including a wide variety of recreation therapy and art therapy services. Keri is a certified recreation therapist and alcohol and drug counselor and has worked in the mental health and substance abuse field for over 16 years She has been with Rosecrance since 2009 where she has provided both direct care and leadership in developing evidence-based experiential programs aimed to provide clinical outcomes in client functioning, symptom reduction, skill development, and overall quality of life. Keri received her Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from East Carolina University and her Master of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Northwest Missouri State University. She has a special interest in and mindfulness and has conducted research on the use of mindfulness-based Therapeutic Recreation in behavioral health treatment.

Michael Gillette

Michael Gillette received is BA from Brandeis University and his MA and PhD from Brown University. He has taught philosophy at several colleges and universities, published articles in the field of ethics and received numerous teaching awards. He is president of Bioethical Services of Virginia, Inc., a medical ethics consulting business. Gillette also has experience in local government, serving on Lynchburg City Council from 2004 to 2016 and as Lynchburg's mayor from 2012 to 2016.

Phil Hemphill is the chief clinical officer of Lakeview Health, where he is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, and directing of all the company's behavioral health and addiction services. He assists current leadership with the review of credentialing and privileging for company’s professional staff, recruitment of new staff, and development of new clinical programs and affiliations. He’s a 25-year veteran of the industry who has researched, developed and managed some of the most successful programs in the country focusing on sexual health and wellness, professional boundaries, disruptive behavior, personality disorders, and addiction.

Karen Kissel Wegela, PhD, has been studying, practicing, and teaching the integration of Buddhist principles and psychotherapy for more than thirty-five years at Naropa University where she is a professor in the graduate Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology department. She has presented at numerous workshops and conferences both nationally and internationally and is the author of three books. Her most recent book is Contemplative Psychotherapy Essentials: Enriching Your Practice with Buddhist Psychology (W. W. Norton). She is a psychologist in private practice in Boulder, Colorado.

Noah Levine, author of Dharma Punx, Against the Stream, The Heart of the Revolution and Refuge Recovery, is a Buddhist teacher, author and counselor. He has created a Buddhist approach to addiction recovery called Refuge Recovery, that includes peer lead meetings as well as a professional treatment center. He is also the founding teacher of Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society, with centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nashville, and over 20 affiliated groups around North America. He teaches meditation classes, workshops and retreats internationally. Noah holds a Master’s degree in counseling psychology and lives in Los Angeles.

Clifton Mitchell PhD, is an international clinical trainer and keynote speaker who has a love for teaching and over 23 years of training experience. Dr. Nagib is a clinical psychologist specializing in Christian counseling, inner healing and treating eating disorders, trauma, addiction, self-injury and mood disorders. For over 15 years, she has provided individual, family and group therapy. Formerly as Spirituality Clinical Director at Timberline Knolls, Dr. Nagib created and launched the Christian Treatment path and oversaw the general spirituality program with the goal to restore each resident to wholeness through a deeper relationship with God, helping each one to find her voice, purpose, and passion. Today, as a key faculty member of Timberline Knolls’ Clinical Development Institute, she travels throughout the country providing clinical training and presentations to professionals. Every year, the CDI team offers more than 80 presentations at national and regional meetings, and contributes to awareness and early intervention through media interviews and blog contributions. Mark Sanders is a member of the faculty of the Addictions Studies Program at Governors State University. He is an international speaker in the behavioral science field whose presentations have reached thousands throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. A partial list of clients includes: Youth Outreach; Wisconsin Department of Corrections; Nashville, Tennessee, Public School System; Northwestern Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry; Hazelden Foundation; and the United States Army, Navy, Airforce and Marines. Sanders is author of four books and numerous articles and manuals. Steve Sawyer is a licensed psychotherapist filled with passion and knowledge surrounding the intervention and change process. His experience comes from over a decade of intervention with tough-to-reach client populations in therapy settings ranging from residential, community-based, outpatient and wilderness therapy. Steve is trained in several unique therapeutic models including somatic trigger release, traumatic memory reprocessing, and HeartMath. Maureen Schwehr, NMD, serves as Sierra Tucson’s director of integrative services. Her department provides a unique combination of physical and mental health support for residents. Dr. Schwehr oversees a team of experienced and talented staff whose services include naturopathic medical consults, acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractic services, massage therapy, shiatsu, zero balancing, somato-emotional release, and craniosacral therapy. In addition to supervising staff, she works one-on-one with residents to help them determine the root cause of their problems. Focus is given to nutritional status and hormonal balance, supporting biochemical pathways that help the body function more effectively. Dr. Schwehr holds a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA.

Currently serving as the director of Foundations Detroit, an outpatient clinic specializing in dual disorders treatment, Wiland has a wealth of practice knowledge and experience in various evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies, and trauma-informed/trauma-specific treatment interventions. He also teaches in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan and is a popular trainer and conference speaker.
