How to Avoid Discrimination Claims When Advertising Online
Wednesday, August 15, 2018 | 3 p.m. ET | $24.95

Duration: 1 hour, including 15 minutes for Q&A

Do your online ads, community website, or Facebook page convey a welcoming message? Or are there any subtle clues that might lead someone to believe you have a discriminatory preference for or against prospective renters based on their race, sex, religion, or any other characteristic protected by the Fair Housing Act?

In this one-hour webinar, attorney Lynn M. Wilson will discuss how some communities have run afoul of the Fair Housing Act’s ban on discriminatory advertising online – and explain how to avoid having discrimination claims arise from your online advertising.

You’ll learn:
  • What you should—and shouldn’t—put on your community’s website
  • Pitfalls to avoid when posting ads on Craiglist and similar sites
  • How to control online posts about your community
  • What to put in a social media policy
This presentation is geared to:
  • Owners of multifamily housing properties
  • Managers of multifamily housing properties
  • Leasing agents
  • Attorneys and other rental property advisors
About the Speaker
Lynn M. Wilson is a Partner with Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, in Atlanta. She initiated and now manages the firm’s Landlord Tenant Practice. This practice area represents multifamily and commercial property owners as well as landlords and property management companies of single-family investment portfolios. An integral component of the firm’s landlord tenant practice includes providing assistance to clients in formulating best practices and procedures in the operation and management of the rental portfolio. As a result, Ms. Wilson has provided recommendations regarding lease forms, drafted addendums, and revised forms and notices in compliance with Georgia law. She has developed and presented seminars to clients on the Fair Housing Act, the tools to effectively process a dispossessory from demand to eviction, and the impact of a bankruptcy filing on the dispossessory process.
