Dr. Richard Sharpe graduated from medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2008 where he also earned a concurrent Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Georgetown University School of Business. He then completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology and served as Chief resident at Thomas Jefferson University in 2013. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Breast Imaging at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston in 2014.
Dr. Sharpe joined Kaiser Permanente in Denver, Colorado as a breast radiologist in 2014. He was appointed the Colorado State Medical Imaging Department Value Advisor in 2016 and then Chair of the Kaiser Permanente Interregional Clinical Practice Group for Radiology in 2018. He has led many improvement projects to improve the quality, access and affordability of care provided by Kaiser Permanente in Colorado and to its 12.5 million members across the United States.

Dr. Sharpe’s interest in IT integration and improving quality and patient satisfaction made him passionate about improving the care provided to patients with incidental and other potentially significant findings. He collaborated with Dr. Ted Palen and other Kaiser Permanente teams to create a patient centered finding management and tracking system that creates an electronic safety net and just in time patient and provider notification system for patients receiving care at Kaiser Permanente Colorado.

He also has had roles in many national radiology committees including Vice Chair and Chair of the RSNA Residents and Fellows Committee; Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Colorado Radiological Society; and the steering committee for the American College of Radiology (ACR) Intersociety Radiology Conference. He is currently a member of the ACR Bulletin Editorial Board, the RSNA COVID-19 Task Force, The ACR Breast Imaging Appropriateness Committee.

Dr. Sharpe has presented 74 scientific abstracts, podium and poster presentations, presented 29 invited lectures, and published 21 articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Sharpe recently joined the Breast Imaging Division at the Mayo Clinic Arizona Department of Radiology.
