Lia Pizzicato is the CDC/CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellow at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. Lia conducts epidemiology research and data analyses projects on substance use and mental health by developing and updating Philadelphia’s Opioid Misuse and Overdose Surveillance Dashboard, utilize Medicaid claims data to understand opioid prescribing trends in Philadelphia, and analyzing unintentional drug overdose fatality data to understand emerging trends in drug use. Prior to joining the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Lia was a research assistant with the Connecticut Emerging Infections Program, where she conducted surveillance for E. coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter and other reportable enteric diseases; collected patient information from healthcare providers and local health departments & interviewed patient about their illnesses and exposures; maintained patient data in Maven Disease Surveillance Outbreak Management System and carried-out patient interviews during outbreak investigation of foodborne illnesses
