Description
(NOTE: This workshop requires an extra fee).

Ethics is far more than following a set of rules, and it requires study and practice to be well integrated into professional work. This workshop will present the foundational principles of ethical behavior for helping professionals. Participants will be presented with tools for ethical decision making in the face of dilemmas and will explore practical examples of application of these tools. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a unique phenomenon of relational violence that tends to have specific differentiators from other types of violence and thus must be treated differently. Having built upon a foundation of ethics practice, this workshop will present information about the dynamics of IPV as well as ask practitioners to explore how their own experiences and perceptions might help or hinder the healing process.

Objectives:
Describe key terms and concepts relating to ethics for helping professionals with particular emphasis on foundational principles
Identify the dynamics of domestic violence and apply insight to clinical practice in order to create environments where both victims and perpetrators can move toward change.
Evaluate how biases and countertransference carried by treating professionals influences clinical work and can be overcome.
