Opioid use disorder overdose has become a top public health crisis as mortality rates have increased in recent years nationally and in Massachusetts. A number of different public health initiatives have been undertaken in Massachusetts to help curb this crisis including addressing overprescribing practices, disposal of opioid medications, and expanding treatment access. This session will describe the state response in these areas and its impact compared to the broader national response.
 
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Describe the trends in opioid use and related overdoses in Massachusetts
  • Recite three ways Massachusetts is addressing the overdose epidemic
  • Describe innovative ways of addressing opioid use disorder
