When children are not treated for the effects of bullying they experience, they often carry the scars into adulthood. Emerging adults are suffering from depression and low self-esteem as a result. This session will look at childhood bullying and how it can continue to impact victims of bullying well into adulthood. Danielle Matthew, LMFT, will discuss what bullying is, the risk factors for bullying, and statistics related to the current bullying epidemic. The session will include strategies to talk about bullying and both the short-term and long-term impacts when untreated into adulthood. Guidelines on treatment for victims of bullying throughout adolescence and adulthood and how adults can heal from childhood bullying will be included. The session will be interactive, with video and case study examples for discussion.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify and utilize 3 strategies for addressing childhood bullying among young adults.
  • Identify risk factors for childhood bullying.
  • Define long-term impacts of bullying that has been untreated into adulthood.
