This session will promote mindfulness skills to support focus, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness in early recovery. Neurobiological, psychological and Twelve Step models will be reviewed, demonstrating the physiological, psychological and spiritual challenges to creating emotional and cognitive balance. Potential barriers specific to Gen Z and Millennials, namely social media and electronics, will be discussed. The presenters will share how Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approaches strengthen mindfulness practice. We will also discuss the importance of creating balance as an important precursor to more intensive trauma work.
 
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Discuss the use of mindfulness skills to promote focus, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Describe challenges in maintaining balance in recovery, specific to Gen Z and Millennials.
  • Identify DBT skills that reinforce and strengthen mindfulness practice.
