This session will include information and a discussion on the impact of psychological trauma on human physiology and how the Autonomic Nervous System responds. Treating symptoms of autonomic dysregulation and the importance of restoring regulation will be discussed. Interactive participation will include mindfulness techniques including tracking internal sensations of activation and deactivation of the Autonomic Nervous System and identifying sensations of calm and/or relaxation that allows for increase in parasympathetic rest.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify the physiological impact of psychological trauma.
  • Explain the Autonomic Nervous System and its role in psychological trauma.
  • Explain the physiological process of a trauma response.
