Progress Report: Where Are We in Arizona in Addressing Addiction and Mental Illness?

Scottsdale, AZ -  Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11am – 1pm (AZT)

Every day we see headlines about behavioral health issues: bullying, suicide, overdoses, meth, opioids. Emergency room admissions for meth and opioids are on the rise in Maricopa County, and while opioids remain an omnipresent concern the DEA office in Phoenix actually considers meth the region's number-one drug threat.(1) Recent news reports of celebrity suicides and school shootings have also again raised concerns about the impacts of unaddressed mental health disorders. A lot of ideas and solutions are being proposed -- but what has been done, what is working, and how are providers and other stakeholders effectively working together?

This panel discussion will explore clinical strategies and case studies that are being used to address specific behavioral healthcare issues not only in the Valley of the Sun, but across the region. Stakeholders of all types -- private practice professionals, case managers, clinicians and physicians, law enforcement, and others -- are invited to participate in the dialogue and discuss next steps.

Upon attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Explain promising clinical strategies for addressing high-priority regional behavioral healthcare issues
  • Cite examples of resources patients can use to access different levels of care and support
  • Identify opportunities for further collaboration to promote a recovery-oriented system of care
