Families in Treatment
Description
Children of addicted parents typically live in confusion with daunting circumstances. Now PTSD has been named a consequence for many living in the chaos, unpredictability and terror in their homes. These children may function as first responders. Urgent interventions appropriate to the level the crisis are not available to sufficient numbers of children and families. More grandparents are now raising grandchildren, and foster parent systems overburdened. Trauma, abuse and parents whose life focus may be on procuring and using illegal opioids or sickness when these are not available is common. These children need a safe, predictable place to call their own with adults trained to recognize and support children's resiliences. This session will identify how to support these children by understanding their unique needs.
