Description
The presentation will cover the physiological aspects of addiction during pregnancy and scientific research that demonstrates that the effects of mood altering substances cause brain abnormalities that impact cognition and increase the desire to use substances despite negative consequences. The lecture will discuss evidence-based approaches for the treatment of pregnant women diagnosed with opiate use disorders. This didactic lecture will discuss the current research on the physiological and psychological impacts to babies exposed to naltrexone, buprenorphine and methadone while in utero.
