Description
Art therapy can be beneficial in the process of recovery from addiction. Art therapy provides the opportunity to get in touch with the inner self and provides a form of expression for feelings that cannot be easily identified or put into words. It fosters a renewed ability to relax without drugs or alcohol. The value of art therapy for addiction is demonstrated through the artworks on display at NCAD. This presentation will provide an overview of art therapy, explain the implementation of art therapy into treatment programs, and describe the important role the art therapist plays.
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Provide an overview of art therapy including a brief history of art therapy and benefits of art therapy.
- Explain the implementation of art therapy into addiction treatment program and describe the important role the art therapist plays.
- Analyze the artworks and discuss content and deeper meanings.
