E02 - New Emerging Psychoactive Substances (NPS): Current Trends in Synthetic Opioids and Heroin - Sponsored by Dominion Diagnostics (1.50 CEs)
Date & Time
Thursday, August 17, 2017, 10:15 AM - 11:45 AM
Lisa Marzilli
This session will review the current trends in synthetic opioids, heroin sourcing, and admixtures thereof. Prevalence rates will be discussed in order to separate fact from “fiction”. In most instances, geography dictates the “flavor-of-the-week” so time for an open discussion and information sharing will be provided. As new products are emerging daily, efforts to stay current remain a challenge both scientifically and legally.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
  • · Describe and define a NPS and identify various categories based on mechanism of drug action
  • · Recognize and name various synthetic opioids and their relative potencies
  • · Evaluate prevalence rates in various sectors of the country and utilize this information to assist in individual (home) practice settings
