2019 Call for Presentations

The National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals from local, state and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers, counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by Rx drug abuse and heroin use.

Join your colleagues, sponsors and exhibitors at the 2019 National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit and submit a presentation proposal.

The session programs and presentations will be tailored to provide stakeholders timely and relevant information for their particular fields. Submissions will be reviewed by the Rx Summit’s National Advisory Board members, who represent multi-disciplinary interests in the Rx drug abuse and heroin issues.
 
Please be prepared to submit the following:
 
  • Session title
  • Session abstract (Max 250 words)
  • Three (3) session objectives
  • Three (3) post-session quiz questions
  • Identification of topic area (listed below)
 

The Summit will be accepting presentation proposals that accommodate the following formats:

  • Educational Session (75-minutes, including a question and answer segment)
  • Pre-Conference Workshop Sessions (2 hours, including a question and answer segment)
 
Note:  The Rx Summit National Advisory Board will accept presenter applications based on the following criteria:
 
  • Supporting evidence-based data from research or demonstrated results.
  • Intent to provide details on how to implement a successful program or others to replicate.
 
The Rx Summit National Advisory Board is seeking proposals that focus on the following topics:
(Please note that these are the categories for the submission process only, and not actual tracks at the Summit. Track definitions and the number of tracks will be determined during the review process.)
 
Advocacy – Activities and programs developed by community organizations, faith and family groups, prevention and education networks, public health agencies (local, state, federal, tribal), or private organizations that support legislative, community, and family support programs.  
 
Clinical – Strategies and outcomes that further the understanding of how to manage patients’ pain safely, address patient’s addiction issues, mitigate risks associated with Rx opioids, and address health issues related to the opioid crisis (such as HIV and Hepatitis C infections) in all age demographics from pre-natal/NAS to older adults, as well as how to set up clinical practices to respond to the opioid crisis.
 
Heroin & Other Illicit Drugs – Statistical analysis of emerging threats as well as new initiatives and proven strategies of policy, public health, and law enforcement tactics of federal, state and local responses that have been implemented to respond to ever-changing drug use patterns, such as with heroin, fentanyl, gabapentin, and stimulants.  
 
Law Enforcement, Public Service & Corrections – Case studies from the federal, state, local and tribal agencies, prosecutors, correctional institutions, judicial systems, and public service departments (such as first responders) who are implementing enforcement, treatment, and programs that identify new opportunities for prevention with stakeholders outside the law enforcement community.  
 
PDMP & Data Surveillance – Federal, state and local systems and strategies that formulate and improve the effective data gathering, sharing, and analysis through provider engagement and technology innovations.   
 
Prescription Practices/Third Party Payer – Proven prescription best practices, case studies, and policies and legislation from pharmacists and pharmacy benefit managers, dentist, anesthesiologists, as well as programs and successful efforts with commercial and employee health plans, workers’ compensation, and Medicare and Medicaid plans.
 
Prevention Strategies – Research and proven programs that seek to prevent initial substance use; including the study of drug trends and responses, alternative pain management strategies, crafting communication and social media campaigns; and the implementation of effective youth prevention programs, including peer-to-peer models.
 
Treatment & Recovery – Successful, outcome-based treatment and recovery programs in response to the opioid epidemic, including the discussion of the opportunities and challenges created by new federal laws, and address treatment and recovery efforts for diverse populations, including veterans, older adults, and rural areas. 
 

Harm Reduction Strategies – Practical strategies and active programs aimed at reducing the negative consequences associated with drug use, such as overdose prevention, supervised injection facilities, field-based drug testing. and syringe access, 

 
Presentation Terms and Conditions:
 

Presenters will be required to complete a Conflict of Interest Reporting Form as part of their speaker agreement.

Presenters agree to waive any honorariums. Please keep this in mind for budgeting purposes.

For up to two (2) presenters per submission, the Summit will:

  • Provide complimentary full conference registration.
  • Reimburse presenter's airfare up to $350 and ground transportation between the airport and the hotel up to $50 (based on the IRS mileage rate in effect at the time). All presenters will be responsible for arranging all air and ground transportation.
  • Provide complimentary hotel accommodations for up to three nights at the Hyatt Regency Plaza (or nearby hotel) for presenters who are not based in Atlanta. If you wish to extend your stay beyond three nights, you may do so at your own expense. If you choose to stay at another property, the Rx Summit will not pay for those accommodations.

For submissions that exceed two (2) presenters, the Summit will not provide conference registration, hotel accommodation, nor travel reimbursement for additional presenters.

The Summit will provide complimentary registration, hotel accommodation and travel reimbursement for no more than two (2) presenters from one (1) organization, in case that organization is associated with multiple presentation proposals.
