A native of Southern California, Christopher Cable, MD attended UCLA medical school and transplanted to Seattle for his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington. Following an additional year as a Clinician Teacher Fellow at the Seattle VA, Dr. Cable joined Group Health Permanente in 2001. Initially practicing as a full time hospitalist, Dr. Cable quickly became involved in medical leadership with sequential roles including local team Chief, statewide Hospitalist Service Line Chief, Assistant Medical Director for Medical Specialties, and has been the Senior Medical Director for Clinical Excellence and Integration since 2015.

Dr. Cable has been involved in a wide variety of clinical innovations and improvement projects, with a special interest in virtual medicine, telehealth, and patient-centered design. He led the implementation of specialty virtual consults, a pharmacy-based centralized medical reconciliation process, teledermatology, and is now the physician executive sponsor for all virtual care initiatives within Kaiser Permanente Washington. Dr. Cable represents Kaiser Permanente on the Washington State Telehealth Collaborative, informing and advising on legislation and implementation of telehealth statewide. Recent telehealth initiatives have included the implementation of a new RN-based e-visit tool, a centralized secure messaging service which processes nearly 10,000 messages weekly, and an improved patient-facing e-consult service. Dr. Cable’s work has been recognized with the Hilde and Bill Birnbaum Award for Research related to published studies on shared decision making video tools, and the Permanente Outstanding Clinician Leadership Award in 2015.
