Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Stacy Mays is a senior healthcare executive with deep expertise in strategic and operational leadership of health plans and risk based provider organizations. She has an outstanding track record of engagement and success. Stacy joined PreferredOne in November of 2017 as their Chief Operating Officer responsible for leading operations, technology, contracting, infrastructure development, medical management, customer service and provider relations for all of the company’s businesses. Prior to joining PreferredOne, Ms. Mays was the Chief Operating Officer of the UNC Health Alliance and the UNC Senior Alliance. She also served as the Chief Innovation Executive for the UNC Healthcare System. In her roles, Ms. Mays was responsible for building all aspects of UNC’s value based care delivery system and strategy across this 14 hospital, $10 Billion enterprise. She successfully led the creation of a clinically integrated network with over 3000 employed and affiliated providers and the development of a Next Generation Medicare ACO with over 20,000 beneficiaries. She served as UNC’s representative in the launch of NC POP, a Medicaid health plan jointly owned by 10 North Carolina health systems. Prior to joining UNC, Stacy served as President of North American Medical Management, a provider network management company acquired by Optum, a division of United Health Group. She has also served in several other key industry leadership roles. Stacy Mays earned a BA in Economics from the University of Georgia and both an MBA and a Master’s of Health Administration from Georgia State University.
