Description
In this session we will take an in depth look at the medical and therapeutic interface of PTSD in the setting of our nation's drug epidemic. We will discuss the full spectrum of events and experiences that constitute an adverse childhood event.  We will identify the clinical trajectory of PTSD and the use of evidenced based tools/measures to aid in the diagnosis of it and diagnostic and treatment implications for working with clients who have comorbid diagnosis of Opioid Use Disorder and PTSD. 
 
Upon attending this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Describe and clinically apply the biological model of PTSD
  • Describe and discuss both the medical and psychotherapeutic modalities of PTSD and opioid use disorder.
  • Describe the therapeutic benefits of implementing exposure therapy techniques in a full continuum of care and identify the client benefit and lasting impact on sustainable sobriety when unresolved trauma is addressed therapeutically at a higher level of care.
