Christine A. Courtois, PhD, ABPP

Christine A. Courtois, PhD, ABPP, retired from clinical practice in Washington, DC in 2016, after 35 years. In the recent past, she has co-authored Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, co-edited two books on approaches to the treatment of complex trauma in adults and children/adolescents, co-authored one book for clinicians on the treatment process for complex trauma, co-edited Spiritually Oriented Psychotherapy for Trauma, and authored the consumer book It’s Not You, It’s What Happened to You. Dr. Courtois lectures widely on these and other topics. She is currently chair of the Guideline Development Panel for PTSD Treatment for the American Psychological Association and for guidelines on the treatment of complex trauma for several professional organizations. She has received the American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Professional Practice, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Sarah Haley Award for Clinical Excellence, and most recently the American Board of Professional Psychology, 2016 Distinguished Service Award to the Profession of Psychology.
Pete Nielsen, MA, MFT, LPCC, Chief Executive Officer, CCAPP

Pete Nielsen is the Chief Executive Officer for the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP), CCAPP Credentialing, and CCAPP Education Institute. CCAPP is the largest statewide consortium of community-based for profit and non-profit substance use disorder treatment agencies and addiction focused professionals, providing services to over 100,000 California residents annually in residential, outpatient, and private practice settings. Its 12,000 individual addiction professionals and 500 programs provide substance use disorder treatment and recovery services throughout the state and constitute the largest infrastructure of the state’s publicly funded substance use disorder treatment network. CCAPP is the only statewide consortium representing all modalities of substance use disorder treatment programs. Under the leadership of Pete Nielsen, CCAPP is leading the way with the creation of the California Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act (C-CARA). C-CARA is California’s comprehensive blueprint for addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery services. Meant to become a national model, C-CARA’s goals are "reformulating resources, priorities, and vision to focus on addiction as a public health crisis." Mr. Nielsen played a major role in navigating the consolidation of the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) and the California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources (CAARR) and growing CCAPP as an industry powerhouse. He previously held the position of Deputy Director for CCAPP and, prior to the consolidation, as Interim Executive Director for CAADAC. In addition to Mr. Nielsen’s solid background in association management, he has a diverse background in education and treatment. He has worked in education as a campus director, academic dean, and an instructor. He has worked in the substance use disorders field for nineteen years as an interventionist, family recovery specialist, counselor, and administrator. Mr. Nielsen is a nationally known speaker and writer who has been published in numerous industry specific magazines.
 
Christine A. Padesky, PhD

Christine A. Padesky, PhD, Co-Founder, Center for Cognitive Therapy (Huntington Beach) is a licensed clinical psychologist and leading Cognitive Behavior Therapy innovator. She provides workshops and consultation for therapists worldwide (www.padesky.com), develops audio CD & DVD CBT training materials and is co-author of five books, including Mind Over Mood, 2nd Edition (www.mindovermood.com). With over a million copies sold in 23 languages, Mind Over Mood has won national and international awards. Padesky’s honors include the Distinguished Contribution to Psychology award (California Psychological Association) and the Aaron T. Beck Award for her enduring contributions to the field (Academy of Cognitive Therapy).
Dr. Ronald D. Siegel is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, part time, at Harvard Medical

School, where he has taught for over 30 years. He is a long-time student of mindfulness meditation and serves on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He teaches internationally about the application of mindfulness practice in psychotherapy and other fields, and maintains a private clinical practice in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Dr. Siegel is coauthor of the self-treatment guide Back Sense: A Revolutionary Approach to Halting the Cycle of Chronic Back Pain, which integrates Western and Eastern approaches for treating chronic back pain; coeditor of the critically acclaimed text, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, 2nd Edition; author of a book for general audiences, The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems; coeditor of Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy: Deepening Mindfulness in Clinical Practice, with a foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama; coauthor of the professional guide Sitting Together: Essential Skills for Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy; and professor for The Science of Mindfulness: A Research-Based Path to Well-Being produced by The Great Courses. He is also a regular contributor to other professional publications, and is co-director of the annual Harvard Medical School Conference on Meditation and Psychotherapy.
